Working in Harmony — ATMI receives Ipendo 2010 User of the Year

At the Ipendo User Forum held in August 2010 in La Jolla CA, the User of the Year Award went to ATMI. This singular award recognizes excellence in collaborative use of the Ipendo Platform™, including actively, attentively and thoughtfully working with all aspects of the Ipendo Platform™.

ATMI utilizes the Ipendo Platform™ to support the life cycle of its intellectual property rights, including the management of invention disclosures, contract requests, forecasting and maintenance. ATMI manages IP workflows and consistently communicates with outside law firms via the Ipendo Platform™.

Ideas for your IDS

How do you manage your prior art and IDS?

During examination procedures at the Patent Office and when conducting freedom-to-operate and prior art searches many references are found and returned to the applicant/requestor. Such documents may include patent references as well as non-patent references. In some countries, there is a requirement to disclose such references during the examination procedure and some PTOs require the applicant to submit such references when they become known to the applicant.

Empower your business through integration!

At a simple level, integration with the Ipendo Platform™ means linking it to other business applications to simplify and ultimately create greater value for your business.

To ensure that such integration is beneficial as well as feasible, it is critical to first examine the business processes to be integrated before and then to focus on the applications themselves.
The process for integrating the Ipendo Platform™ with a financial system or document management system encompasses more than technical issues. Ipendo customers are counseled to approach integration initially from a nontechnical perspective: Simply start by analyzing and connecting your relevant business processes to each other. Then map these processes to your integration requirements.

Docketing Systems vs. IP Management Systems — A Pivotal Decision

The modern intellectual property professional faces an increasingly complex array of decisions. As the marketplace becomes more global, the business of managing intellectual property becomes tremendously more challenging.

Today, IP professionals must consider a far wider range of filing possibilities, undertake a more complex cost/benefit analysis in deciding where to file, and collaborate with colleagues worldwide in a global technology-driven economy that moves at breakneck innovative speed.
But amidst all the choices that must be made, there is one decision that is not only easy to make, but also can simplify many other decisions: the choice to use an IP management system such as Ipendo Platform™ rather than a simple docketing system.

Toni´s inside track

Sporting white doctors’ coats with the Ipendo logo on our pockets and giving out “pills” aimed at promoting healthy IP management, the Ipendo team reiterated our unique way of acting on the market. With thousands of IP professionals at the recent INTA conference in rainy San Francisco—all of them draped in black and gray—we were easy to recognize from a distance!

Ipendo was a proud Gold sponsor of the 2011 INTA, a highly successful event with a nonstop busy booth. With the Ipendo IP pop song playing in the background we demonstrated specific modules in the Ipendo Platform™ including trademark clearance, IP forecasting, categorizations and taxonomy of portfolios as well as the new one-click reports that offer quick and simple overviews of IP activities, ownership and other key statistics.
Midway through the event, I was sitting checking my e-mails and having lunch at one of the many round tables where “speed dating” meetings were held. The head of IP of a large German company joined me at the table with her lunch box and a deep sigh. She told me she was stressed out as she had an urgent matter and needed access to three documents stored in her company’s IP management software, but she could not log-in remotely and her assistant was obviously sleeping at that time. Then she added: “It’s ironic that we are supposed to be in the front end of new innovations and technology but we have yet to even adapt to Web or mobile apps in our industry.” Of course I could not resist smiling and tilting my cell phone toward her to quickly demonstrate Ipendo’s new mobile application that soon will be available for all our users. The look on her face when she saw how easily she would have been able to log-in, search for records and view/download data or documents directly from her company’s IP software made my day. So, everybody stay tuned for future killer concepts and applications from our R&D labs.
I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer!
